Welcome to the 5th High Wycombe Scout Group

Welcome to our Scout Group

The 5th High Wycombe Scout Group has been active since 1924.  We are currently based out of King's Wood School, Hollis Road, High Wycombe, HP13 7UN.

We are a very active and vibrant Group, which is reflected in the number of young people participating every week; we currently have over 80 children within the three sections (Beavers, Cubs & Scouts).

All Sections meet on a Friday evening, with Beavers starting at 5.30 pm and Scouts concluding at 9.45 pm.  Specific details can be found in each of the Section's Information below.

Each of our Beaver Colony, Cub Pack and Scout Troop are supervised by highly qualified leaders, whose aim is to provide the children with good quality Scouting; an experience your children won't forget.

Activities on offer include: camping, which is a key element of Scouting; Archery; Climbing; and lots of other adventurous pursuits.  Of course, having fun is a key objective as is making new friends, learning to work as a team and to respect one another.

The Beaver Colony

The Beaver Colony is for boys and girls

Age Range: 6 to 8 years

Motto: "Fun & Friends".

Meeting Time: Fridays 5.30 pm - 6.30 pm

Beavers is the first Section in the Scout Movement and is the first introduction to working together as friends and as a team whilst earning badges as they progress.  Beavers take part in many activities, including camping and other outdoor activities, whilst having fun.

Provided the child has completed all of the requirements, they will be presented with the Chief Scout Bronze Awards before the move on to Cubs.

The Cub Scout Pack

The Cub Scout Pack is for boys and girls

Age Range: 8 to around 10 1/2 years

Motto: "Do Your Best"

Meeting Time: Fridays 6.30 pm - 8.00 pm

The Cub Scout Pack theme is based around Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book", with the Cub Scout Leader named "Akela" after the leader of the wolf pack, and the other leaders taking on other charter names from the book, such as "Kaa", "Hathi" and "Jacala".

The Cub Scout Pack delivers a structured and balanced programme to allow the Cubs to develop skills, learn to work as a team, take part in many activities, including camping and other outdoor activities, all whilst having fun.  Taking part in the programmes that are put on each week allows the cubs to work towards badges and to reach their ultimate goal of being awarded the Chief Scout Silver Award.  This award can only be presented to Cubs who "have done their best".

Please contact Akela on 07828 399396 or email akela@5thhw.org.uk for further information.

The Scout Troop

The Scout Troop is for boys and girls

Age Range: 10 1/2 to 14 years

Meeting Time: 8.00 pm - 9.45 pm

Each Scout Troop consists of small units of six to eight Scouts called a Patrol, usually led by a Patrol Leader.  Outdoor activities feature prominently, with the highlight being camping.  Throughout the year, Scouts learn various skills, such as map reading, camp cooking and first aid in preparation for camp.

Rock climbing, dragon boat racing, hiking, canoeing and regular camps are just some of the things that we get up to.

Please contact the Scout Leader, Richard Fox, by email 5thhwscouts@gmail.com for more information.
